Mefloquine (Lariam) is suitable for use in areas where Falciparum Malaria is present. Mefloquine (Lariam) is most commonly used for those visiting malaria regions in Africa, parts of Asia and South America. Mefloquine (Lariam) is not suitable for use in some parts of South East Asia where Mefloquine resistance has been reported.
One Tablet Weekly
Start the course of tablets two to three weeks before arriving in an area which has Malaria. Take one Mefloquine tablet weekly on the same day each week. Continue taking these tablets for a further four weeks after your return to a Malaria free area.
